My name is John Haverty. I graduated from Washburn University in 1999 with a BA in Computer Information Systems where I have been working at Washburn since 1997 in the IT department. In May 2020 I graduated with a Masters in Leadership and Communication from Washburn University. When I first started working in IT, we were the Academic Computer Center where I did training throughout the year on computer equipment and software. I worked my way up the hiring ladder from student worker, trainer, support specialist, manager, assistant director, and director. As of October 2021, I am the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Washburn University. I am excited to be the CIO for Washburn University and I look forward to the new challenges this position will bring to my career.
Other than supporting others with IT questions, I enjoy following sports. Primary pro teams that I follow include the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. Following Washburn University Athletics sporting events and attending every home football game. We have had football season tickets to Washburn games the past three seasons although rarely make it inside of the stadium as we enjoy tailgating and being in our spot to watch the game outside of the fence.
I have been married to my best friend Carrie since September 2001. Carrie and I enjoy traveling as well as being with family and friends.
